Not a CAD expert? Send us a template.

You don't have to be an experienced CAD jockey to design a knife. If you can provide us with a knife template or model, then we can reverse engineer it and turn it into CAD.

What exactly do you have to provide?

For a full checklist for templates click here.

  • Templates can be made of any rigid material

  • It must be the exact profile you want us to cut- not the finished knife

  • In order for the scanner to pick them up, all holes in the template should be at least 1/8" in diameter (they can be edited once they are in CAD)

  • Include a supporting drawing or PDF with hole locations, finished diameters, tolerances, secondary operations, or anything else that should be reflected in the cut part (see example below)

Example of a supporting document to provide with a template.

Including the design name, dimensions, material, finish thickness, heat treat/secondary operations, hole diameters, quantity, surface and edge finish, tolerances, and notes.

How do we do it?

We utilize a Virtek Laser scanner that is able to scan your template and turn it into a 2D CAD file that can be exported to CAM for cutting. After the template is scanned it goes through a process of verification and editing within our CAD/CAM program. Check out our template checklist to know what your template should include.
